ABOUT THE USS BOSTON SHIPMATES

Who we are

The USS BOSTON Shipmates organization was formed in 1986 with the goal of conducting a reunion to bring together former crew members of the U. S. Naval ships named BOSTON. The founding president was George W. Colvin, who served aboard the USS BOSTON CAG1 from 1958 to 1959.

The level of interest at the 1987 reunion was so high that the organization was formalized and incorporated as a nonprofit organization. We are staffed entirely by volunteers. Reunions have been held annually since 1987. Reunions have been held in:

Membership

Membership in the organization, which was about 100 in 1986, now exceeds 3,400. Members include men who served aboard the CA69 from 1942 to 1946, the CAG1 from 1955 to 1968, the CA69 from 1968 to 1970, and the SSN703 from 1979 to 1999. We have members in all 50 states, Washington DC, Puerto Rico, England, Scotland, Guam, and Tazmania.

Membership is automatic for past or present crew members and their wives and widows. Officers, Sailors, Marines, drone unit and Flag personnel are all welcome.

Honorary membership is bestowed upon non-crew members who have shown an abiding interest in Navy ships, with special interest in a BOSTON or her crew through family relationships or friendships.

Annual membership is $10 (free if you're over 80), life membership is $110, and we are proud to extend free annual membership to active duty military personnel who served aboard the BOSTON. All Shipmates receive at least one newsletter each year.

Why pay dues? First, to ensure the continuity of this great organization. Plus, Shipmates with paid-up dues status are entitled to:

  • Discuss and vote on organization business
  • Receive four to five newsletters each year
  • Pay discounted prices for USS BOSTON identity items
  • Request a list of Shipmates with whom they served, in their geographic area, from their division, or any appropriate subset
  • Share in various resources of the organization
.

Privacy policy: In the interest of protecting the privacy of our Shipmates, we do not release our full membership list to anyone inside or outside the organization. Certain Shipmates request that their info be held in strictest confidence, and we honor and abide by those requests.

USS BOSTON Resources: In the interest of fairness we restrict the sharing of USS BOSTON Shipmates resources to contributing Shipmates.

Joining: If you or a family member served aboard a BOSTON, download THIS FORM, fill in the information and email it, along with a check for $10 for your first year's dues, to the Secretary so you can be added to the membership roster.
